For years, the European market has been dominated by a few companies. The largest companies have a market share of 96%. The remaining market share is accounted for by various small suppliers, who have organised themselves into associations and private companies. Roasted at Origin concludes contracts directly with the respective coffee farmers’ associations. In addition, Roasted at Origin negotiates with roasters and companies in the packaging industry in order to bring them together with the coffee growers and thus to interlink the individual stages of the value chain more closely. These must meet certain regulations regarding fair income and trade, direct trade and EU-regulations.
WILD coffee
Fresh Agro Industry PLC was founded in 2012 to introduce the “genuine taste of Ethiopian Coffee to the world, with the aptly named brand of Wild Coffee”. The popular Wild Coffee can be found in most Ethiopian supermarkets.
Yirgacheffe Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union
The YCFCU was established in 2002 by 13 member organisations to support sustainable coffee supply through cooperatives in the Gedeo ethnic region of Ethiopia. Since then, the union has grown to 38,000 farmer members. YCFCU is certified by Fairtrade and the Rainforest Alliance.
Oromia Coffee Farmers
Cooperative Union
The OCFCU is a smallholder coffee growers owned cooperative union established in 1999 by 34 cooperatives with over 22,000 farmers. OCFCU exports traceable, fair trade, organically grown, UTZ and Rain Forest Alliance certified coffees.
Hadero Coffee
Hadero was established in 2018. Hadero is primarily engaged in coffee roasting and grinding and is developing a chain of retail outlets. At the roastery in Addis Ababa, a coffee museum/gallery has been curated in order to teach the public about the business of coffee in Ethiopia.
Tomoca Coffee
Tomoca is a family-owned coffee company from Addis Ababa. It was founded in 1953 and is especially known for its quality, comfort coffee and the ambience of its stores in Ethiopia.
